Dockage for a 38' Catamaran

Over the past 12 years, we've sailed our 28' Corsair F28R Trimaran (with 20' beam) and other boats throughout the Chesapeake Bay and have very good insight into where you can go and how you can enjoy your destination on a large catamaran.

The Chesapeake Bay is one of the largest estuaries in North America, with a shore line stretching over 2000 miles and fed by some 150 rivers. Every boat cruise here is a voyage of exploration throughout wetlands, up winding rivers, across wide bays and ending each day at historic waterfront towns and villages.

Where to Go

The Chesapeake Bay is one of the largest estuaries in North America, with a shore line stretching over 2000 miles and fed by some 150 rivers. Every boat cruise here is a voyage of exploration throughout wetlands, up winding rivers, across wide bays and ending each day at historic waterfront towns and villages. Many areas of the Bay are unsurpassed in their natural beauty and with more than 2,000 aquatic life forms, both plant and animal existing in this ecosystem, there is much to observe and enjoy. The Chesapeake Bay is a natural resource cherished by many environmental and conservation organizations in the area which provide invaluable service to help preserve this environment and the beauty of its heritage.

St. Michaels - St. Michaels is a colonial American town on the Eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Just a four hour sail from Annapolis, this town has several excellent seafood restaurants featuring the local specialty, Maryland Soft Shell Crab.

Oxford - Located across the Bay from Annapolis and on the peaceful Eastern Shore, this quaint colonial town offers a quiet getaway, rich in sailing tradition. One of the oldest towns and once Maryland’s largest port, the harbor is protected for harvesting crabs, clams, oysters and fish. The town offers pleasant window-shopping, seafood restaurants and ice cream shops, and charming bed and breakfasts.

Rock Hall - In Colonial times, travelers from Annapolis arrived at Rock Hall via ferry (George Washington and Thomas Jefferson took this route to Philadelphia). Today, with 15 marinas, Rock Hall is a favorite destination for pleasure boaters. Visitors have a variety of dining, recreation, and shopping options. Be sure to visit the old fashioned soda fountain at Durding's Store. The Rock Hall Trolley Company runs a loop around the center of town every hour. It only costs $2.00 to ride all day. Rock Hall also offers charter boat options for pleasure boaters, fishermen, and paddlers.

Annapolis - Annapolis is the sailing capital of the US with a season running from early April to late October. The City Dock area is bustling with shops, restaurants and historical buildings, as well as the United States Naval Academy.

Dockage for a catamaran or large beam boat on the Chesapeake Bay typically requires a "T" head type docking arrangement, a mooring ball or the time tested anchor and there are many marinas on the bay that provide these for transient dockage.   Over the past 12 years, we've sailed our 28' Corsair F28R Trimaran (with 20' beam) and other boats throughout the Bay and have very good insight into where you can go and how you can enjoy your destinations on our large catamaran.  For example, we've often sailed into Annapolis and picked up one of the many mooring balls right off the main street area.  The moorings are available for $25 per night and you can utilize the excellent inexpensive water taxi system to get most anywhere in Annapolis.   We've also anchored in various places in Annapolis for long weekend getaways, even during the boat show.   Baltimore also has several marina's that can accommodate a catamaran in a floating slip or "T" head right in the center of the city and with a reservation you can be assured of a place to stay upon your arrival.  We've stayed at the Inner Harbor and caught the Orioles at Camden Yards on several occasions.   We particularly enjoy St. Michaels and choose to anchor in the protected waters of this quaint town without paying the $2 to $3/ foot dockage fee.   Whether you choose a "T" head, mooring ball or simply anchor using Silver Star's serious anchoring systems you can be rest assured that you can go anyplace on the Chesapeake Bay on a large catamaran and do so in style and comfort.

Please check out this neat map below that shows areas numbered.   Below the map you'll find marina website links associated with the numbers that will take you to that marina's website to find information about that marina on the Chesapeake Bay.
